MISE is in support of a wide range of art media, ranging from paint, print, sculpture and drawing to textiles, ceramics, and glass along with video, photography and installation art. The only criterion that MISE works from in the selection of artists to exhibit is that the work is of a high quality and evidence of passion and creativity on the part of the artist.
MISE has a new exhibition every month with an opening for the artist at the beginning of the month, which you are more than welcome to attend. Details of the openings and exhibitions can be found on the MISE art space page. It provides an opportunity to meet the artist and discuss the work, along with having a glass of wine and some craic. If you are interested in exhibiting at MISE please send an artist's statement and a selection of images of your work to info@miseonline.ie
MISE is also hoping to run classes/talks and workshops in the future. If you think that you have something to offer in this regard we would love to hear from you so please drop us an email, phone us or call in!

PAST EXHIBITIONS
By the Sea

Keane has participated in a number of group show since then, including the Tulca Arts Festival, Galwayand NUIG Galway.
Susanne Keane's current work is inspired by her passion for the sea and it's shoreline. Her multi layered paintings-some of large format-communicate subtle power and energy. The blue, green and turquoise palette draws the viewer into the magical space of being by the sea.Her paintings convey the magical feel of the rhythm of tides, shifting skies, wind and weather.
Keane's exhibition shall run until the end of the month.
Natasha Pike
An exhibition of work by Natasha Pike opened on Friday the 7thof August. Thanks to the artist's friend Sarah for helping out with the hanging. It turns out our maths is not what it should be, therefore there was a number of recalculations regarding measurments. After some head scratching and alot of coffee we got all the work up and it is looking hot!
Natasha Pike is a visual artist from West Cork. This latest exhibition of her work draws from her experiences while staying in Argentina. Pike's practice is focused on the process of drawing and within this she uses a broad range of media. Space and line would be prominent features in her work as is the balance between the real and imaginary. BUENOS AiRES Warm, heat, sunshine, trees, green, streets, heavy with air. Full of the slow buzz of a large city living on Buenos Aires time. Pavements broken with stones and dog shit, fast cars, many cars and porteño's of every kind. Beautiful ladies, brown and beautiful, you have to be beautiful to be here. Waking up with the city, dogs bark, crickets cricket, bamboo and tall trees rustle in the hot wind. Sirens hoot like owls that never sleep, traffic grows in waves and tides, scooters scoot, buses, taxis hurrying and honking. Balconies, murals, and dog walkers. Origami birds, printed clouds, shopping trolleys full of G-strings. Fabric covered designer coat hangers, cloth wheelbarrows a hardware store selling fishing waders next door to a fancy home ware shop. Next to a petrol station, next to a launderette, a café, a clothes shop, a boutique, a hairdressers, a sewing machine shop, a cheese and winery, supermarket, and a small dark shop with a little old man who can speak seven languages selling thread and needles. Not forgetting my veg man across the road. They live the way we live but they cannot afford to. There is no way out. It is too big. Alone with 20 million people. You could be anyone here, it is an anonymous place. But it is a city that cares, maybe in a vain sort of way, at the same time it doesn't give a shit...I like that. A long hot sweating train going nowhere quickly. There is a man watering the pigeons in the park, twenty dogs on a lead. I lie on a bench, an old couple next to me chattering and laughing like a lullaby, they could talk all day and all night. The night here is like the day only it is dark. The city does not sleep. The night shift takes over from the day. I look into the trees and realize I am really here...not there. Being here makes me wonder about life, it is not about making a living, it is about living.....todos los dias....all the days. The exhibition was offically opened by the painter Kieran Tobin. It was an enjoyable evening, of which alot of time was spentlaughing with a couple up from Kerry. Great craic!
Emer Lynch
Vivid colours and vibrant translucency work together to create a playground of beautiful details and bursts of energy on the unique canvas of glass. The artist shares a remembered sun-set on a spring evening, the turning of a mighty tide, and the gentle whisper of hope that comes with a new season, along with some personal observations on roles and consequences in this series.
We had a great opening night here at Mise for Emer. Meave Mulrennan(Chairperson of Tulca Internatioanl Visual Arts) offically opened the exbo. The show shall be running until the end of the month. It is a joy to come into work everyday and see Emer's colourful, vivid work up on the walls. We can't pick a fav one as every time we try the best we can do is a top 5...It's too hard to decide!
Pics of Emer's work below but becaues they are painted onto the glass they are best seen standing in front ofthe workas the colours really pop and sometimes the camera just can't capture that!
Bernadette Falvey
MISE Art Space is holding an exhibition of work by the award winning textile artist Bernadette Falvey.
Falvey has been a keen painter and crafts person all her life but her true passion has always been working with fabric. Inspired by her surroundings, travels and experiences, Falvey has produced many wonderful pieces which have been exhibited all over the world. Falvey's style is a mix of traditional and contemporary, each piece tells a story from the heart.
This exhibition represents some of the journeys of Falvey's life, both physical and emotional. Each piece represents a different journey from a celebration of the sights and sounds of Africa to an emotional journey in Singapore and the spiritual journey experienced while in the artists retreat in Annaghmakerrig.
The exhibition opened on Friday June 5th 2009 Musician Frankie Gavin did the honours and played a few tunes. The exhibition shall run until the 26th June.

Volvo Ocean Race Group Show
In honour of the Volvo Ocean Race stopover in Galway, MISE, as part of the official Arts Trail at a group exhibition that showcased a number of local artists. The exbo will include art and design pieces. Susanne Keane has submitted an array of exquisite and intimate paintings that express her love and connection with connemara. They are gorgeous. Here are a few words from the artist about the paintings.
"My work for this exhibition is inspired by the sea.The small acrylics are delightful journeys that invite the viewer into a wondrous, imaginative environment. With a colour palette of blues, light greens and pinks, one is immersed into a translucent underwater world where one sways among seaweeds, flotsam and other mysterious creatures."
Natasha Heaslip is next up, she is a fantasticjewellery designer. She has submitted two differing lines in her work for this exhibition. Heaslip went even further up in our esteem after we read she was asked to design a number of pieces for characters in a Harry Potter movie. ( No, we don't care what you think , we think Harry Potter rocks!) Anyhow.. that's not all she does. MISE is showcasing her outlandish and fun Urban Jewellery body sculpture range as well as her more mainstream lines, including Moma Spikes and Spikeful.
Lastly, Olga Tiernan has brought us a number of uber uber uber cool prints....in GOLD!!!..well, gold foil and a couple of them are in black too but...come on ...GOLD. We have never loved horses, bears and eagles as much. Until you have seen her gold horse and bear ...not to be over the top...but you haven't lived! :)
Stephen Farnan
Ceramicist Stephen Farnan's lastest , shiny new collection of work is now exhibiting here at MISE.Stephen Farnan has been shaking things up with his easy going, organic approach to clay. His quirky, energetic pieces are a huge hit with everyone from grannies to hip young design-conscious homeowners and art gallery bods, much loved for their timeless simplicity and comforting nostalgic quality. His 'simplistic' 'disorganised' designs belie a much more considered approach and aptitude for innovation and experimentation.
In the mid 1990's Stephen studied at the Art College in Belfast before completing a master's degree at the Royal College of Art, London. Since then he has travelled widely, working for periods with Potter Elizabeth Kinder in the USA. Stephen returned to Ireland in 2002 to establish his pottery studio at Priory Cottages, Art, Craft & Design Studios, Benburb, Co.Tyrone
His show will run until the end of the month. Along side the ceramic pieces, Stephen has brought a number of framed drawings that give an insight to the creative process as well as being...well...drawings! When I saw them , they reminded me of Da Vinci's sketches, the mechanics of the pieces mixed with the visual impact of the work. We won't tell Stephen this though...we wouldn't want to inflate his ego too much!Check out some of his work below..
Ann Harkin Petersen
Ann Harkin Petersen Harkin Petersen's work is rooted in the imaginative process and the play and tension between the rational and the sensual. She is fascinated by what emerges when one shape, line or colour activates a reaction that demands, either an addition of or a total reversal of, what might be considered the obvious solution to the completion of the whole picture. What drives her exploration in paint is the whole concept of mystery and the consequent transcendent implications
check out the link below for images of Anne's work and some pics of the opening night!
Grace Mitchell
Mitchell's work is concerned with the culture of consumption in contemporary Ireland. She uses line in a fast, gestural and blurry manner to reinforce the subject matter.

Lesley Wingfield
Opening night for Lesley's exhibition was on Friday14th November at 7pm. Click on the link below to view pics from the opening night. The show will run until December.
Lesley Wingfield was born in London but has lived in Westmeath since 1974. Although Lesley received her BA Degree in Fine Art from GMIT in 2007 she has been a practicing artist since 1996.Her work has featured in numerous exhibitions in Westmeath and nationally including a solo show in Galway Town Theatre. Lesley has been awarded numerous bursaries, residencies and project funding from Westmeath County Council.
Lesley's summers are spent in idyllic Brittany, France and it was here that she first used her underwater photographic images as a source for what developed into her series of underwater paintings. Inspired by the light through the water reflecting on skin tones, and movement she was able to study natural poses capturing her family and friends diving and swimming underwater, with the water distorting the face and figure. The work has taken interesting directions over the last two years.
The collection of paintings showcased here at MISE has been developed over the last two years and culminate in this exciting and innovative body of work. The exhibition includes work done while on numerous residencies in the Tyrone Guthrie Centre in Co. Monaghan as well as her travels to France.
In a review by Aiden Dunne Irish Times July 07 in the article: "New Wave of Irish Art", this work was described as: "Highly Accomplished".
Images of work and the opening night
Will O' Kane
A new series of portraits and figure studies that draws on the notion of Hexis, an ancient Greek term that has been in reused in recent sociological theory. The term is merely a reference to the manner, attitude and disposition of the individual and his or her interaction with social systems. This finds a correlation to the new paintings of Will O'Kane, in the execution and focus on various sitters as well the representation of the individual in various forms of commercial media. The paintings are executed in an energised style that is representative of current contemporary painting trends.
Will O'Kane is a graduate of G.M.I.T.'s Fine art department. He has exhibited throughout Ireland as well as in shows in Colombia and Iceland.
Carolyn Walsh
Born in Cahirciveen Co. Kerry in 1984, Carolyn Walsh has always had a keen interest in art, after school she went on to study for a degree in art and design and textile design in GMIT (Galway Mayo Institute of Technology). She has done many commissions, most recently for a client in Holland, which consists of 2 extremely large prints to be used as part of the interiors of a lounge bar in the city Nijm
Artist Statement
The concept is based on the idea of utopia.Poverty is a major part of this project, the closeness in our towns and cities from the rich to the poor areas, is outrageous. Recording both of these areas through the use of photography, combining and almost intertwining the two together to demonstrate this closeness in our societies. From there I went on to think about a way in which I could make these situations better....so I taught about the idea of ‘utopia'. From a designer point of view I then decided to make these images into series of utopian visions. All my images are put together through the use of photography, paint and Photoshop then finally digitally printed onto cotton poplin. Others are done with stencils, spray paint, acrylic and collage, on canvas.
